- Trevor Slattery / “The Mandarin” (Ben Kingsley)
- Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell)
In a small break from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we take a look at the last One-Shot film Marvel ever produce (much to my dismay) that stars high profile actor Ben Kingsley (with a guest appearance from Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer) as his infamous plot twist: Trevor Slattery.
Trevor is in prison, and living the high-life as a celebrity of the criminal underworld. A reporter is creating a documentary on the life of Trevor Slattery, as of course the rest of the world knew him as The Mandarin – a crazy terrorist who blew up Tony Stark’s Malibou mansion! However, the documentary maker turns out to be a member of the Ten Rings and claims, in epic fashion, “I’m taking you to meet someone. You took his name. And now he wants it back.”
This short-film, while low profile, explicitly confirms the presence of the real Mandarin, possibly the magician comics fans will know as Tony Starks nemesis and one of his (if not the) greatest villains. Again, short-films like this are what makes up the MCU to me. Short, side tales that tell a story apart from the grand scheming arc of the Infinity Stones.
Justin Hammer appearing at the end was brilliant too, I had a great chuckle to that one. It’s a shame Obidiah State was killed, otherwise we could’ve had a Tony Stark villain’s reunion!
